Resumen
He is graduated on Physics at the University of Havana in 1970, majoring in Nuclear Physics. From 1980 to 1990 he was director of the Institute of Oceanology of the Cuban Academy of Science, where he was the organizer, coordinator and researcher of important scientific projects. Among many others, he participated in the Hydrolab Submarine expedition, in the use of Argus mini-submarine to study the Cuban platform and the first research program on board Ulysses; participating also in numerous projects for coastal zone management. Since 1990 he is the Director of the National Aquarium. He is a Senior Researcher with more than 40 publications and more than 100 scientific events. Since 1980 he represents Cuba in the International Oceanographic Commission (IOC / UNESCO) of which he has been a member of its advisory group for capacity creation from 1995 to 99. From 2001 to 2005 he was the first Vice-President of this commission and was also the Vice Chairman of the Global Committee of the Oceans Observing System. Since 2006 he is Chairman of the Sub-Regional Commission for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions. He holds Carlos J. Finlay Medal. He has developed a remarkable work at the National Aquarium as turning it into a scientific-educational center of excellence in Marine Science line.
