José A. Lozano

Geologist, Colombia. Member and current Secretary of the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences. Member of the Colombian Society of Researchers and Scientists. Graduated as Geologist and Geophysicist at the National university of Bogota in 1959. PhD at the Columbia University in 1974. Director of the Department of Geosciences, National University, Bogota, from 1975 to 1978, National Coordinator of the International project on Geosphere Biosphere of the IGBP from 1993 to 2005, elected President of the Colombian Network of Environmental Education from 1999 up to the present. Coordinator of the program of Science Education of the American Network of Sciences Academies-IANAS, from 2004 to 2010. He has more than 60 scientific publications and presentations at international scientific meetings. His scientific activity highlights in the subject of Marine Geosciences and Oceanography, ocean-atmosphere interactions and their effects on inter-tropical America, Global Change in the Americas and in recent years for his results in the generation of experimental materials and learning modules for science education. He is member of the Teachers Association of the National University and National Board member of the Colombian Society of Geology. For many years he maintained a close cooperative relationship with the Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC) in different forums and international mechanisms.
