This Prize is awarded since 1997. It was established by the Cuban Institute of Books and the Academy of Sciences of Cuba in response to the ever increasing development in the publication of scientific and technical works. It is aimed at publicly acknowledge and stimulate remarkable works in the area of science and technology which contribute to the development of our society. The award also stimulates publishing houses with relevant titles
