Linked institutions

1- Subordinate institutions. Institutions which are directly subordinate to the Academy of Sciences of Cuba.
2- Sponsoring Institutions. In its twenty sixth article, the Statutes of the Academy establish that the nomination of Candidates to Members is made by scientific research institutions, centers for Higher Education, scientific societies and other national entities or organizations of prestige in their scientific or cultural activity that, after common agreement with the Academy, will acquire the condition of sponsors. Those entities will establish formal agreements with the Academy so as to declare their mutual recognition and duties and they will formalize the relations required for the fulfillment of the Statutes and the By-Laws of the Institution regarding the process of nomination of candidates to members of the Academy as required by the partial renovation of the members. The first step towards that end is the formal request, in writing, to the Academy, of the condition of Sponsoring Institution by such entities, explaining their structure, aims and functions, and in which way those are akin to those of the Academy. Those requests will be evaluated by the Commission of the Academy for Sponsoring Institutions and, eventually, the corresponding certificates will be given to those entities that are granted that condition. The candidates to members of the Academy will be elected by secret ballot by the Scientific Councils or equivalent organs of the Sponsoring Institutions and their proposal, together with the relevant documents will be sent by the highest authority of the Sponsoring Institution to the President of the Academy.
