Begins: 9/2/2008
Ends: 9/5/2008
Type :
International
Summary :
The InterAcademy Panel on International issues (IAP) Program on Promoting Access to and Use of Digital Knowledge Resources: Focus on Countries with Developing and Transitional Economies follows a previous IAP Initiative on Access to Scientific Information in Developing Countries which took place between 2004 and 2006. In this way IAP is promoting programs which expand access to digital scientific information resources for scientist who work in less developed countries. This Program, based upon the activities and results of the 2004-2006 Initiative, has two main areas of focus: access to and use of: 1. digital data and scientific information resources; 2. digital networks and infrastructure for research and education. Based on the outcomes and recommendations from the previous IAP Initiative this Program will perform the following tasks: 1) Hold a series of international workshops and meetings on a regional basis, develop supporting information resources and other outputs (as specified for each task group in the work plan outlined in the full proposal), and publish the results on the IAP portal and on the Web sites of the participating Academies; and 2) Work with other IAP Programs, as well as with other organizations already engaged on these issues, to avoid duplication of effort and to leverage existing expertise and resources. So, in the framework of this Program, the Academy of Sciences of Cuba is organizing this activity, which includes a workshop and a planning meeting of the InterAcademy Panel’s Program on Digital Knowledge Resources and infrastructure. The workshop will take place on September 3 to 4, 2008, at the Palco Hotel, Havana, Cuba. It will be organized into nine sessions, each one led by a chair and a designated rapporteur. Each session would include invited presentations. The IAP meeting on the InterAcademy Panel’s Program on Digital Knowledge Resources and Infrastructure will be held on September 5, 2008, at Palco Hotel, Havana, Cuba. This meeting will be by invitation only.
