The Academy of Sciences of Cuba awarded the 2009 National Prizes
On last February 27 the Academy of Sciences of Cuba awarded the National Prizes to the best 67 scientific results during 2009. The awarding ceremony took place at the “San Ambrosio”Assembly Hall, in La Cabaña. There were awarded 18 scientific results linked to Biomedical Sciences, 17 linked to Natural and Exact Sciences, 15 linked to Social Sciences and Humanities, 10 linked to Agricultural and Fisheries Sciences, and 7 linked to Technical Sciences. There were also awarded the Year Award to Technological Innovation as well as the Special Prizes of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment. The Awarding ceremony was chaired by Dr. Jose. M. Miyar Barrueco, Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, and there were also presents Dr. Fernando M. González Bermudez, Deputy Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment; Dr. Ismael Clark Arxer, President of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba; Drs. America Santos and Lina Dominguez, both of them Vice Ministers of Science, Technology and Environment; Elba Rosa Perez, Head of the Science Department, Communist Party of Cuba; Georgina Bonilla Pimentel, General Secretary, Science Workers Union, and Dr. Fidel Castro Díaz-Balart, Scientific Advisor to Cuban State Council, among others.
