It took place the plenary meeting of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba
The winter ordinary session of the Plenum of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba (ACC) took place on January 13 at “Baire” Assembly Hall, located at the second floor of the Capitol building. The Plenum approved the best 67 scientific and technical research in Cuba during 2009. The awarded researches were distributed as follow: Natural and Exact Sciences - 17, Technical Sciences - 7, Agrarian and Fisheries Sciences - 10, Social Sciences and Humanities - 15 and Biomedical Sciences - 18. Dr. Gisela Alonso, President of the Environmental Agency, gave a conference on the main scientific works that are currently being developed and their perspectives, in order to address the climate change in Cuba. During the meeting it was commemorated the 50 Anniversary of the speech given by Fidel Castro Ruz, historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, in which he expressed that “…the future of our homeland, has to be necessarily a future of men of science, it has to be a future of men of thought”. The commemoration took place through the reading of a document that expresses the Cuban scientific community’s will to continue being in the side of Revolution. The document was signed by all of the present people and was sent to Fidel. The ordinary session was chaired by Dr. Ismael Clark, president of our institution. America Santos Rivera, Vice ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), Gerardo Morera, from Science Department, Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and Georgina Bonilla Pimentel, General Secretary of the Science Workers Union, were also present, among other guests.
