Dr. Nicasio Viña extols Caribbean Biological Corridor
Doctor Nicasio Viña Davila, director of the Eastern Center of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (BIDECO) and Full Member of our institution, stressed today the importance of the Caribbean Biological Corridor for the conservation of the valuable natural heritage of the región. The expert pointed that since July, 2007 they are working on the initiative that Cuban, Haitian and Dominican Republic authorities and scientists of the geographic segment known as La Española. Viña Davila considers that by the end of the current year the first results of this joint experiment should be ready whose first step was to form the human resources engaged in the preservation of the rich biodiversity in the area. He announced the next sistering between the Baconao Biological Reserve and that of Aragua, in the Dominican Republic and later on, with a similar area in Haiti. Work in the protected areas is one of the objectives of the Corridor, based mainly in the territories of Eastern Cuba and west of La Española, said Director of BIOECO.
